Man hit by tractor dies in MP; Cong, BJP fight over tribal atrocities, sand mafia – ThePrint – PTIFeed

Singrauli, Sep 2 (PTI) A tribal man died after he was allegedly hit by a tractor following a dispute in Madhya Pradesh’s Singrauli district, police said on Monday.

The incident, which took place on Sunday evening, led to a verbal skirmish between the opposition Congress party and the ruling BJP party over alleged atrocities against tribals and the free run of sand mafia in the state.

“The police helpline 100 received a call on Sunday evening about a man injured in a tractor accident. A police team that reached there found the injured person Indrapal Agariya, a resident of Gannai village, along with his family, other villagers and some journalists,” said Additional Commissioner of Police Shiv Kumar Verma.

“Agariya was taken to Sarai Hospital where doctors said there were no visible injuries on his body but his condition appears to be serious. While he was being referred to the district hospital, he died. His family members have claimed that the tractor belonged to one Lale Bansal and alleged that its driver hit Agariya with the vehicle leading to his death,” the official said.

The relatives alleged that the tractor was travelling on a road behind the deceased’s farmland and hit Agariya when he tried to stop the vehicle, the additional SP said. Further action will be taken in the case after the autopsy report is received.

When asked if people associated with the ruling BJP party were involved in the incident, Verma said any names that emerge will be verified as part of the investigation.

In a post on X, state Congress leader Jitu Patwari hit out at the BJP government and said, “Another sensational incident of endless tribal oppression in Madhya Pradesh has now come to light from Singrauli. The sand mafia has run over poor tribal Indrapal Agariya of Gannai village for refusing to let them take over his crop.” The accused are affiliated with the MP BJP and have been carrying out illegal excavations in the area for years, Patwari alleged and questioned the silence of MP Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who also holds the House portfolio.

If the oppression of Dalits and tribals continues like this, we will soon see them openly fighting against the government on the streets, Patwari warned.

BJP state spokesperson Pankaj Chaturvedi said, “The Congress has a habit of making baseless allegations. As is evident from the plans of the Centre and the state, the BJP is committed to the development of the tribal community. If a crime is committed, no one will be spared and the law will take its own course.” Chaturvedi, however, said he had no specific knowledge about the incident. PTI ADU MAS BNM
