‘Even the mafia doesn’t do that’

It’s not enough that Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s family came after him after he officially withdrew from the presidential race and endorsed Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

That was to be expected, after all. Kennedys gonna Kennedy, after all. But Hollywood going after the former independent candidate and activist’s wife — actress Cheryl Hines — even though she didn’t support his decision was a different story.

In fact, as Bill Maher pointed out on his Friday show, it’s something even the Mafia can’t do.

Hines, best known for her role on “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” released a statement on social media supporting her husband’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, without commenting on his endorsement of Donald Trump — which is of course a tacit non-endorsement, if you’re familiar with how this works.

“I would like to express a sincere, heartfelt thank you to everyone who worked so tirelessly and lovingly on his campaign. They accomplished feats that were impossible,” Hines said in the statement.

“They collected over a million signatures, more than any candidate in history, and gained access to the ballot box across the country despite the obstacles and lawsuits filed against them with the sole purpose of keeping Bobby off the ballots so no one would even have a chance to vote for him.”

The comment was her most recent post on X.

Do you agree with Bill Maher?

Kennedy’s decision was, as expected, met with backlash from the Kennedy family, who even condemned their own family member for having an opinion.

That said, the backlash against Hines was a different story altogether, as Maher pointed out, noting that “Curb” star Larry David said she was “the greatest person I’ve ever met, the only person in Hollywood who doesn’t have a single enemy.”

“Well, now I do,” Maher said, laughing.

“Because she didn’t throw her husband under the bus when he made a decision about something she (clearly) didn’t agree with,” he continued.

Among the responses she received on social media from “the annoying posers on the … far left,” as Maher called them: “How are you living with yourself?” “Do better.” “I can’t even enjoy the episodes of ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ with you on them anymore. No wonder Larry divorced you.”

“Uh, yeah, that’s a character on TV, but okay,” Maher joked about the latter.

He specifically targeted Bradley Whitford, who is best known for his role in ‘The West Wing’, sometime during the ice age of television.

“What a way to remain silent while your insane husband shows his support for the convicted rapist who brags about depriving women of their basic rights,” Whitford wrote on social media.

“Well, you know what I don’t think is bold?” Maher replied. “Explaining to a woman—but not to her face, of course—how to sacrifice her marriage, all so you can read something on Twitter that you approve of.

“Do you want to know why I have more trouble with the left than before? It sucks,” he continued.

“There’s an ugliness that they never had before. The liberals I respected as a kid weren’t like that. Going after women, even the mafia doesn’t do that.”

WARNING: The following video contains strong language that some viewers may find offensive.

Unfortunately, that’s how the leftist group mind works. In terms of ethical consistency, it’s worse than the Mafia, because at least the Mafia won’t beat your wife up, just like you, if you commit an act of infidelity.

Granted, the performative left doesn’t beat people up with silenced pistols and provide them with concrete shoes, which is an ethical advantage in their favor. But if we are to distinguish at all between ethics and tactics with respect to the political mob and the actual mob, then there is a problem.

You can disagree with RFK Jr. all you want. God knows there is plenty of reason to do so, even if he is endorsing your chosen candidate this time around. Attacking his wife for his beliefs is beyond disgusting. What could be more disturbing? Without Maher to point this out, Whitford and his ilk would be applauded for their behavior, or at least not receive the slightest hint of public censure for their despicable, sick behavior.
