Maher Jokes ‘Nasty’ Leftist Movement Worse Than Mafia After Attacks on RFK Jr’s Actress Wife Cheryl Hines

HBO’s “Real Time” host Bill Maher attacked liberals who slammed actress Cheryl Hines for supporting her husband Robert F. Kennedy Jr. after he endorsed former President Trump last month.

“Going after the woman? Even the mafia doesn’t do that,” Maher said during the latest episode of his HBO talk show.

HBO host Bill Maher slammed actress Cheryl Hines’ haters for ridiculing her after her husband RFK Jr. voiced his support for former President Donald Trump.

Hines, one of the co-stars of HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” faced a flood of criticism after sharing an X-post on August 23 expressing support for Kennedy and his campaign team following their decision. The statement read, in part: “The decision has been made to suspend the presidency of my husband, Robert Kennedy Jr., and I would like to express a sincere, heartfelt thank you to everyone who worked so tirelessly and lovingly on his campaign.”

Hines’ statement seemed conciliatory, as the actress is not a fan of Trump. Days after she posted it, Kennedy told TMZ that his wife supported his decision, even though she didn’t want her to.

“This is the opposite of what she would want to do,” he told the outlet, adding, “She went along with it because she loves me and she wanted to support me, but it wasn’t something she ever encouraged, I would say.”

In addition to the millions of views, Hines also received angry responses from left-wing activists, who were shocked that she had not publicly criticized her husband for supporting Trump.

Maher went after these disgruntled social media users Friday night, calling them bullies and saying they had exposed an “ugliness” to liberals that he had never seen before.

Maher began by describing how affectionately Hines is regarded in Hollywood. He quoted “Curb Your Enthusiasm” creator and star Larry David, who said she was “the best person I’ve ever met. The only person in Hollywood who doesn’t have a single enemy.”

The presenter then noted: “Well, now she does, because she didn’t throw her husband under the bus when he made a decision about something she clearly didn’t agree with.”

“But that didn’t satisfy the annoying posers on the aforementioned far left,” he added, before reading aloud a series of messages slamming Hines, including one from “West Wing” actor Bradley Whitford.

“West Wing” star Bradley Whitford attacked “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star Cheryl Hines after her husband RFK Jr. suspended his presidential campaign and endorsed former President Trump in the 2024 race.

The day after Kennedy endorsed Trump, Whitford attacked Hines on X, saying, “Hey @CherylHines, good job staying quiet while your insane husband supports a convicted rapist who brags about depriving women of their basic rights. Brave. Great example to the kids. Profile of courage.”

The “Real Time” host questioned Whitford. “You know what I don’t think is bold? Explaining to a woman — but not to her face, of course — that she has to sacrifice her marriage so you can read something on Twitter that you approve of.”

He went on to trash these comments in general: “You want to know why I’m more bothered by the left than I used to be? It’s s— like this. There’s an ugliness that they never used to have. The liberals I grew up with weren’t like that.”

Elsewhere he added: “There are a lot of people these days who I call liberals in theory. In theory they hate bullying. Terrible. In practice their attitude is: it’s not bullying if I stick your head in the toilet.”

The comedian went on to attack Whitford again, saying, “In theory, liberals are compassionate. In practice, this man can’t even understand one of the most fundamental dilemmas that all human beings share: that sometimes you have to swallow a little shit when you’re married.”
