A convicted mob hitman, already serving a life sentence, was sentenced to an additional 25 years in prison Friday for the 2018 prison murder of notorious Boston mobster James “Whitey” Bulger. The New York Times defeated.

Fotios Geas, 57, was the last of three men convicted for his role in the 2018 murder of James (Whitey) Bulger.

Bulger was brutally beaten to death in his cell less than 12 hours after he was transferred to a federal prison in Bruceton Mills, W.Va. Prosecutors revealed that Geas delivered the fatal blows while two other inmates stood guard.

Bulger, who led Boston’s predominantly Irish gang in the 1970s and 1980s, was also an FBI informant who provided information on his gang’s chief rival, the bureau said. Bulger, however, has vehemently denied ever cooperating with the government.

Prosecutors said Geas repeatedly struck Bulger with a lock attached to a belt. Defense attorneys disputed this account, however, claiming that Geas struck Bulger with his fist instead.

About a month ago, Paul J. DeCologero, a Massachusetts gangster already serving a 25-year prison sentence, was given an additional four years in prison for his role in the attack, in which he served as a lookout.

Another inmate, Sean McKinnon, was given a prison sentence after prosecutors dismissed a more serious charge of conspiracy to murder.
