Suspects wanted for Monterey Park burglaries, theft of couple’s pension fund

Police are searching for the suspects responsible for multiple home burglaries in Monterey Park.

Two victims believe the thieves were watching their homes and waited until residents left before striking.

In one of these cases, the suspects stole an elderly couple’s entire retirement savings in a matter of minutes, after decades of hard work.

KTLA’s Rachel Menitoff spoke with the couple’s daughter, who doesn’t want to identify herself or her family out of fear for their safety. However, she does want the public to see the burglary in case anyone can identify the suspects.

The daughter suspects that three thieves targeted her parents’ home near Findlay Avenue and Floral Drive on Thursday, September 12, in broad daylight around 10 a.m., after everyone had left for work.

“They climbed over our brick wall into the backyard,” the daughter explained. “They started cutting the metal door open. They made a hole and that’s how they got into the house.”

Once inside, the thieves forced open a locked door and ransacked the bedroom.

They found a heavy safe containing valuables and money, including savings the woman’s parents had put aside for their retirement.

“My parents are such hardworking people and you know, they’re so lowkey. They’re of retirement age, but now they’re just finding out that they might never be able to retire.”

The neighbor’s Ring camera captured the thieves backing a white Subaru Ascent over the curb, onto the lawn and attempting to load the approximately 150-pound safe into the trunk.

A few days earlier, about three miles away, another burglary took place that was captured on camera.

The victim, Raymond Yao, told KTLA he was eating lunch when he saw two masked men snooping around his home on his puppy cam.

Yao said they fled with a designer bag, money and his wife’s wedding ring.

“That day was one of the heat wave days,” Yao said. “So I think in the future, we should keep someone out who wears hoodies and baggy clothes when it’s over 100 degrees outside.”

The two alleged robbers also entered Yao’s home through a sliding door at the back.

“The worst after-effects are not the material goods, because they can be replaced, but the sense of security, peace of mind, and we live a little bit with a sense of paranoia, what if it happens again?” Yao asked. “Is it going to happen again?”

The older couple’s daughter seems to share Yao’s concerns.

“We’ve been thinking about it non-stop,” she said. “How do we catch these guys? How do we get justice? How do we make sure this doesn’t happen to other people?”

Monterey Park police have an abundance of surveillance footage from both locations, but have no updates on either case at this time.
