Shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, Louisiana State Police were notified that Baton Rouge police were investigating a single-vehicle crash involving an on-duty Louisiana State Police lieutenant on Interstate 10 near Perkins Road.

Officer Sgt. Kate Stegall said 51-year-old Prentiss “Trey” Bellue was the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash and that he showed signs of impaired driving during the investigation.

Following the investigation into the accident, BRPD officers arrested Bellue and issued him a ticket for driving under the influence, his first offense.

Bellue, who was off-duty and in his own vehicle at the time of the crash, is assigned to the Louisiana State Police Crisis Response Section. Bellue has been with the Louisiana State Police since 1998.

Stegall said Bellue has been placed on administrative leave. All law enforcement property will be recovered pending the conclusion of criminal and administrative investigations.
