Jake Cave hits a go-ahead 3-run homer in the 8th inning in the Rockies’ 7-3 win over the Giants

DENVER — Jake Cave hit a game-tying, three-run home run in the eighth inning of the Colorado Rockies’ 7-3 win over the San Francisco Giants on Friday night.

Cave also pinch-hit in the seventh, and Brenton Doyle and Ezequiel Tovar added homers for the Rockies. Colorado has 15 homers in its last four games.

“Our lineup is crazy,” Cave said. “You’ve got (Michael) Toglia down there hitting a home run like he does every other game. I think we have a good chance to piss some people off. That’s what we want to do: go in there, play good teams and make them mad that we beat them.”

Cave hit a 410-foot home run to right field against Ty Rogers (1-3). It was the 31-year-old outfielder’s third home run in 10 games, after not hitting a home run in his first 66 games of the season.

“I knew I had it,” Cave said. “I saw a couple different pitches from him, obviously that fastball and that slider from him, but from a submarine low angle you have to be perfect. Luckily I saw enough of them because I had a longer at-bat and he left one in a spot where I could get the barrel on it.”

Doyle hit a 430-foot home run in the sixth inning, his fifth in the past seven games and his 10th since June 28.

Tovar’s solo shot in the eighth inning gave the Rockies their final run of the night. He has three homers in the past two games.

“He didn’t deviate from his routine, his process,” Rockies manager Bud Black said of Tovar. “He didn’t panic, which is easy for a second-year player to do. He stuck with it. That shows his grit, shows how tough he is, shows how confident he is. It’s good to see him bounce back.”

Jalen Beeks (6-4) threw a perfect 1 1/3 inning for the win.

Rogers allowed three earned runs in just one third inning.

“It was very unusual for them to give up some runs,” Giants manager Bob Melvin said. “Give them credit. They got some good at-bats and scored some runs off some good relievers.”

Though he struggled with control at times, walking four batters, Giants starter Kyle Harrison has allowed just one hit in five shutout innings, striking out six. In two outings at Coors Field this season, he has not allowed a run in 12 innings.

Thairo Estrada hit a triple in the second inning that gave the Giants two runs.

“We’re probably not going to win 100 games this year. That’s OK,” Rockies starter Cal Quantrill said. “But we want to be a team that other teams don’t want to play.”

Rockies: OF Kris Bryant (left rib contusion) began a rehab assignment at Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday and could return to the team as early as Monday, with Black noting the former National League MVP “feeling good and ready to go.”

Giants: LHP Kolton Ingram was claimed off waivers by the New York Mets. … LHP Alex Young was claimed off waivers by the New York Mets. Neither Ingram nor Young has appeared for San Francisco this season.

LHP Kyle Freeland (1-3, 6.00 ERA) was scheduled to start for Colorado on Saturday against RHP Logan Webb (7-7, 3.47).
