Man charged with retail crimes and shoplifting across Phoenix

PHOENIX — A 31-year-old man has been charged with 42 counts of organized retail crime and shoplifting across the Valley, Maricopa County District Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced Friday.

Jeremy James Beene targeted high-end construction equipment at Home Depot stores throughout the county, particularly in Chandler, Mesa and Phoenix. Video surveillance caught Beene stealing nearly $60,000 worth of merchandise over a 28-month period from February 2022 to June 2024.

“Ultimately, we all pay for those who commit these types of crimes,” Mitchell said in a press release. “The loss to stores has a real knock-on effect, and that is higher prices for consumers.”

Beene was charged on June 28 with 38 counts of organized shoplifting, three counts of retail theft (misdemeanor category) and one count of retail theft (misdemeanor category).

The suspect is being held on $35,000 bail.
