Burning ban in effect in southern Idaho

With wildfires continuing to rage across Idaho and the US, it is important for everyone to be aware of the burning bans and restrictions currently in effect in their area.

In Southern Idaho, several burn bans have been in effect since July, including Ada County, Canyon County, Owyhee County and Payette County. All outdoor burning is prohibited in counties with burn bans.

Several counties, including Elmore and Boise County, have varying fire restrictions. Boise County has an Open Burning Ban in effect, which prohibits open fires on private property between July 1 and October 20. This ban does not prohibit campfires in “suitable structures” on private residences.

According to the Idaho Department of Lands, individuals living outside of Idaho city limits who plan to engage in burning for any reason (including the burning of crop residue, except for recreational campfires) between May 10 and October 20 must apply for a fire safety permit.
