‘There were times when I thought I wouldn’t make it’ – Chloé Dygert ready for third Olympic Games

Chloé Dygert was one of the riders who didn’t have to wait for the selection to be announced to know she had secured a coveted spot to represent the United States at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. As world time trial champion, her spot was secured, but that was where the 27-year-old’s certainty ended.

The months after she won her second rainbow jersey in the time trial in Glasgow did not go as smoothly as she had hoped.

“I came back to the US, took a couple days off, relaxed, restarted, did my altitude prep and then started breaking times that I had never broken before and seeing power numbers that I hadn’t seen in a long time,” Dygert said.

The race begins for Dygert on July 27 with the individual time trial, where triathlete and U.S. champion Taylor Knibb will also start alongside her. Dygert will then take on Kristen Faulkner in the road race on August 4, before turning her attention to the track, where she will race the Team Pursuit on August 6-7.

“For me it’s important that the ITT is the first event. I’m racing on the 27th and I’m fully focused on the 27th for the 40-minute effort,” Dygert said. “I’ve seen footage of the ITT course. We won’t know what road furniture has been removed until we get closer to the day or what roads have been repaved. It’s a power course.”

“After the 27th the ITT is cancelled and I’ll leave the village to spend some time on the track with the team to prepare and do some sessions on the circuit. Hopefully the road race will be run hard enough to take out some sprinters.”
