Corey LaJoie responds to Kyle Busch’s ‘liar’ comments, calls for retaliation from world’s top NASCAR drivers

Tensions between Corey LaJoie and Kyle Busch reached an all-time high following the Richard Childress Racing driver’s appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. Busch accused the Spire Motorsports star of being a liar and changing his story multiple times. It all started after LaJoie wrecked the two-time Cup Series champion at Pocono. At the time, the #7 driver believed he had done nothing wrong on the track. However, his perception changed when he re-addressed the incident after the race.

“I understand he has every right to be angry, but for him to appear on the biggest talk show in the country and call me a liar makes me angry,” LaJoie told The Athletic. Busch did not respond to LaJoie’s attempts to communicate, but said on McAfee’s show: “The retribution is coming.” The Spire Motorsports driver isn’t too worried about the same thing, though, as an outright crash would earn Rowdy a penalty. The catch is that drivers as experienced as the two-time champion know how to make it look like an accident.

“A guy like him and a guy like Denny (Hamlin), we’ve seen that when those guys are going to tear you down, they’re good enough not to make it look like it was intentional,” he added. The driver of the #7 car will expect such an incident if they are close together on Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Even if it is egregious, he believes top drivers like Busch have enough financial backing to retaliate or get into a fight and still be able to pay the potential fine that comes with it.

It was a year to forget for Rowdy and he may have developed a ‘nothing to lose’ personality for the rest of the season. At Indianapolis he was only fast enough to qualify P34, which won’t do him any good. He’s expected to be tough to pass on the oval on Sunday and it will only add to his frustration.

Will Kyle Busch Take a Cue from Denny Hamlin?

Drivers making wrecks look like accidents has been a common occurrence in NASCAR for years. Denny Hamlin did something similar to Ross Chastain a few years ago. Again at Pocono, the on-track rivalry between the two drivers saw Hamlin get the upper hand over Chastain. The two drivers have wrecked each other many times during the 2022 season. However, the #11 has been the victim most of the time. This time, the Joe Gibbs Racing star kept his cool and did what he thought was right.

With 19 laps to go, there was a restart with the two drivers on the front row. Hamlin was at the bottom and he drove up the track, pinning the Trackhouse Racing driver.

As a result, Chastain hit the outside wall while trying to avoid the #11 and crashed. The JGR star said it was difficult to race when he was aggressively racing the #1 with a win on the line. The move was praised by Kyle Petty and Chase Elliott afterward for being smart, leaving fans in suspense as to whether or not to blame Hamlin and still reach the end goal.

We could see something similar from Rowdy if the situation arises. However, due to his fiery personality, it could be quite the opposite.
