Donovan Mitchell has hilarious reaction to Evan Mobley’s extension with Cavs

The 2024 off-season was all about handing out contract extensions for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Just weeks removed from reaching a three-year, $150.3 million extension with star forward Donovan Mitchell, the Wine and Gold followed that up with a five-year, $224 million deal with 2021 No. 3 overall pick Evan Mobley. Upon news of the deal, Mitchell was among the first to congratulate his teammate on getting paid via X.

However, it wasn’t just a congratulatory message from Mitchell. He also made it clear to Mobley that he would no longer be picking up the check for him.

Mitchell’s hilarious reaction speaks volumes about his relationship with Mobley and the team as a whole. Despite years of rumors that the 27-year-old would move on to bigger markets the first chance he got, he made a statement on July 2 by signing with the franchise for the foreseeable future. It was an investment that will continue to grow and develop a young Cavaliers team for years to come.

That belief largely begins with Mobley, who has shown some star quality in his first three years in the league but is still developing. The organization is counting on new head coach Kenny Atkinson to be the key to unlocking Mobley’s full potential, particularly on the offensive end of the court.

If so, Mobley and Mitchell could become one of the best duos in the NBA for years to come. It also looks like they’ll be splitting the bill at dinner more often.
