David Loughnane ‘delighted’ to see Go Bears return

Go Bears Go is set to contest the Phoenix Sprint Stakes at the Curragh again after returning to trainer David Loughnane’s stable.

The five-year-old began his career at Loughnane Farm and was an instant success, winning on debut before embarking on a flourishing junior career.

The colt was second in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint at Del Mar. The colt also won the Railway Stakes and was third when beaten by just one length in the Phoenix Stakes.

As a three-year-old he won the Pavilion Stakes at Ascot, was second in the Hackwood at Newbury and then returned to the Curragh to take first place in the Phoenix Sprint Stakes.

At the end of 2022 he left the care of Loughnane to join Wesley Ward in Keeneland, America. After that stay and a short period with Adrian Murray, the son of Kodi Bear who owns Amo Racing, he has now returned to familiar surroundings.

Loughnane is delighted to have his former stablemate back and has taken the horse home with him since his return. There is still a bid for the Phoenix Sprint Stakes on the cards but that should all go well between now and next month.

“Go Bears Go is back with us, I’m very happy that he’s back,” said the coach.

“He looks great, I’m just ticking him off. Fingers crossed that the first port of call will be the Phoenix Sprint Stakes at the Curragh, the race he won two years ago.

“It’s lovely to have him back in the garden, he was part of the furniture here so it’s great to have him back.”
