Boston Red Sox Considering Trade for Chicago Cubs Starting Pitcher

The Chicago Cubs have struggled through the All-Star break, losing their first two games to the Arizona Diamondbacks, 5-2 and 3-0, respectively.

After showing signs of life heading into the All-Star break, the Cubs appear to be dead in the water once again. With the MLB trade deadline just nine days away, Chicago should seriously consider selling again.

If the Cubs do decide to trade some talent, there are a few players who stand out as potential trade chips. Those players are outfielder and first baseman Cody Bellinger, starting pitcher Jameson Taillon and outfielder Ian Happ. Other players on the list could also be strong contenders for trading on the market.

Looking at Taillon, the veteran starter has had a solid season and could be a valuable arm that a contender wants to target to bolster their rotation.

Recently, MLB reporter Bob Nightengale said of Today in the US has linked the Boston Red Sox to a possible trade for Taillon at the deadline.

Taillon has started 16 games so far this season. He has compiled a 7-4 record, along with a 3.10 ERA, a 1.16 WHIP, a 4.2 K/BB ratio and 93.0 innings pitched. Those are very good numbers from the 32-year-old starter.

After a tough 2023 season, his first year with Chicago, he has bounced back strongly.

Not only would Taillon be a big addition for a contender in the 2024 season, he also has one year left on his contract. He would also be a rotation add for the 2025 campaign.

The Red Sox are a logical choice as a potential trade partner. Boston is 53-44 this season and is poised to become a serious contender in the American League. If they can add a few players before the deadline, they could be a legitimate team to watch in the second half of the season.

If the Red Sox could sign a veteran, experienced pitcher like Taillon, it would be a big step toward that goal.

That said, it will be interesting to see if the Cubs actually sell at the deadline. It seems like a likely scenario if they continue to struggle in the coming days.

Expect to hear a lot of rumors surrounding Chicago. They hope to get back to winning ways right away, but if they don’t, Jed Hoyer will have some tough decisions to make.
