Michigan State Spartans target DeZhon Hall discusses Jeremy Fears Jr.

Michigan State Spartans point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. figures to be head coach Tom Izzo’s point guard for the foreseeable future. Fears can do just about anything Izzo asks of him, scoring, generating offense and draining his own end of the court.

The Spartans are always looking for options going forward, though, and the 2026 class could be fruitful for the Green and White. In-state point guard Jonathan Sanderson, formerly of Saline High School, was recently offered by Izzo. Another target the Spartans have shown interest in is point guard DeZhon Hall, who remains a rising name in the class.

I spoke with Hall recently and he described what seemed like a solid connection with Izzo and Michigan State. Despite not receiving an offer from the Spartans, Hall had unofficially visited East Lansing last fall. He talked about his visit and what stood out was his relationship with Fears that went beyond the field.

“Our families have been really close for a while. Me and his younger brother, Jeremiah, played together years ago — with each other and against each other. We still do that now. I’ve known him for a while, so I just asked him about the school, what he thought, stuff like that,” Hall told me. “My family and I went to the campus, I played an open round with a couple of guys. I did pretty well, I held my own. So it was pretty fun to see how I stack up against these guys like Tyson Walker, AJ Hoggard, guys that play my position and are about my size. So just watching what they do, how they play the game, and just trying to pick their brains and learn a little bit from them.

“We went to the soccer game… The atmosphere was great, I talked to coach Izzo for a while… it was a great experience.”

Fears’ brother, Jeremiah, is a target for Izzo in 2025.

Hall spoke highly of coach Izzo, saying it would be a “great opportunity” to play for the Spartans.

“He’s got a long resume, he’s been doing this for a long time and has coached a lot of pros,” he said. “It would just be a great experience to be coached by him.”
