WNBA rookie Kate Martin’s father informs fans about her injury

Matt Martin, the father of WNBA rookie Kate Martin, updates his fans on her injury, revealing she suffered a sprained Achilles tendon.

On Tuesday, July 16, WNBA rookie Kate Martin slipped in the first quarter of the Las Vegas Aces’ game against the Chicago Sky and was sent to the locker room. Although she was later benched, she was ruled out for the remainder of the game.

After the game, Aces head coach Becky Hammon said she knew little about the situation, saying she only knew that Kate had suffered an injury to her lower right leg.

Kate Martin’s father informed his fans about her injury.

Just a few days after the injury, Kate Martin’s father, Matt Martin, spoke to KCCI Des Moines and shared an update on Kate’s condition, saying she had “bruised her Achilles tendon.”

Matt noted that the timing couldn’t have been better, as it coincided with the WNBA’s month-long hiatus due to the league’s All-Star break and the 2024 Summer Olympics, giving Kate plenty of time to recover and potentially undergo physical therapy on her leg before the season resumes.

Kate narrowly avoided a major setback with her Achilles injury, as a tear or rupture could sideline her for the entire WNBA season. For those who don’t know, a torn or ruptured Achilles tendon takes about 6-12 months to fully heal.

Although an Achilles tendon injury is less serious than a tear or rupture, it can still be very painful and may even temporarily limit your movement. Recovery time depends on the extent of the injury, but if Kate’s bruise is only mild, she may recover in a few days or weeks with RICE (rest, ice, compression, and elevation) therapy. More severe bruises, however, may take several weeks to fully heal.
