Almost immediately afterwards, Biden announced that he would support Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate.

Brian Prince, Georgia State Representative stated: “President Biden is and has always been a true and servant leader! His sacrifices and his dedication to our great nation speak volumes! I am sure his decision to no longer seek the Democratic nomination was well-researched and I thank him and his family for their sacrifices to our country! I pray and respect his decision to support Vice President Kamala Harris.”

Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones stated on X“The Democratic establishment has succeeded in subverting the will of their voters. They can replace their nominee, but they cannot undo the damage they have done to this border and economy. Republicans have never been more united, and Democrats are a mess. See you in November! #TrumpVance2024”

Georgia Attorney General Chriss Car stated on X, “We are in an unprecedented political time in our country’s history. Regardless of the political impact of today’s announcement, President Biden has made the right decision for his health, and we will be praying for him. Regardless of who the Democrats choose as their nominee, we have an obligation that will not change: to keep America the greatest, strongest, and freest nation on earth. Electing Republicans at all levels in 2024 is the only way to achieve that goal.”

Senator Jon Ossoff stated on X“Pres. Biden’s record and decades of service to the country are extraordinary and historic. Thank you, @POTUS. Vice President Harris is now the absolute right candidate to defeat Donald Trump and unite our country. @KamalaHarris is prepared, ready to win, and has my full support.”

Rep. Jim Clyburn, D-S.C., stated on X“I have had the honor and privilege of calling President Joe Biden a friend for many years. When I endorsed then-candidate Biden in 2020, I found myself unable to think of anyone with the integrity and more committed to the fundamental principles that are the foundation of our great country than he was. He has used those principles to bring the American people together through incredible trials and uncharted territory. He has pursued an agenda that has addressed the inequities in our healthcare system, the unaffordability of higher education, our outdated roads and bridges, the gun violence epidemic, access to affordable high-speed broadband internet, and so much more. President Biden has improved the lives of countless Americans through his selfless service, and I thank him for his unparalleled leadership. “One of President Biden’s first decisions as nominee was to select a running mate he believed possessed the values and vision needed to continue this country’s quest to build a ‘more perfect union.’ I agree with the good judgment he has shown in selecting Vice President Harris to lead this country with him, and I am proud to follow his example in supporting her candidacy to succeed him as the Democratic Party’s nominee for president in 2024.”

Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson stated“Well, I’m disappointed that Augusta was one of the five hub workforce cities. We’ve had the opportunity to build a very close relationship with President Biden, as well as his administration. I’m excited for him and what comes next, and that he certainly deserves to take a break or retire. Or whatever he wants to do.”
