Donald Trump’s Past Donation to Kamala Harris Goes Viral

Former President Donald Trump goes viral on social media for his donations twice to the campaigns of his potential presidential opponent, Kamala Harris.

According to financial data, Trump is donated $5,000 to Harris’ campaign on September 26, 2011, and $1,000 on February 20, 2013, when she ran for California Attorney General.

Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, gave Harris’ campaign $2,000 in 2014, The Washington Post reported that a spokesperson for Harris said she did not solicit the donation from Trump.

The Sacramento bee reported in 2020 that Harris donated the money to a nonprofit that “advocates for civil and human rights for Central Americans” when Trump launched his presidential campaign in 2015.

It wasn’t unusual for Trump to donate to Democrats back then. In 2001, he gave $1,000 to then-Senator Joe Biden’s campaign. The following year, he gave $5,000 to the New York State Democratic Party, according to OpenSecrets.

In 2006, Trump donated $15,000 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and another $10,000 to Andrew Cuomo in his bid for New York Attorney General. He also supported Kristen Gillibrand’s senatorial campaign in 2010.

Trump donated to the campaigns of future opponent Hillary Clinton multiple times: twice in 2006 for $2,100 and $200, respectively, and another $600 in 2007, according to OpenSecrets. He also donated at least $100,000 to the Clinton Foundation, according to the nonprofit.

After announcing Sunday that he was dropping out of the presidential race, President Joe Biden endorsed Harris to replace him on the Democratic ticket. If she becomes the party’s presidential nominee, she would face Trump in November.

Biden’s decision follows weeks of mounting pressure from within his own party and from top Democratic donors urging him to step aside. The announcement marks a significant shift in the political landscape, as the Democratic Party must now quickly organize to select a new nominee by Aug. 7.

Trump has said since Biden announced his withdrawal that Harris would be an easy opponent to beat in November.

The former president has been critical of Harris recently. The New York Times reported Saturday that Trump’s team has already prepared an opposition plan for Harris.

Shortly before the Republican Party convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, last week, Trump’s team reportedly prepared anti-Harris signs and videos.

“After the bipartisan border deal collapsed, Donald Trump resorted to lying about the vice president’s past,” a Harris spokesperson told the Time“As a former district attorney and attorney general, she has spent her career standing up to fraudsters and criminals like Trump. Trump’s lies will not deter her from continuing to prosecute him on the biggest issues in this race.”

Trump previously called Harris “crazy,” but “not as crazy as (former House Speaker) Nancy Pelosi.”

“Harris was given two jobs: First, she was put in charge of U.S. border security, and then she was sent to Europe to stop Russia from attacking Ukraine,” Trump posted earlier this month. “BOTH TIMES the result was a deadly failure.”
