McBride, who played his first three years of college football at Kansas, made an immediate impact in his first season at UH in 2023, amassing 1,024 receiving yards and nine touchdowns, the most on the team.

An arrest report from Saturday shows McBride attacked his girlfriend in front of their child at the couple’s home.

“The University of Hawaii takes every allegation of domestic violence very seriously,” UH said in a statement. “The university can confirm that Steven McBride is a student-athlete on the 2024-25 football roster, and that UH has received notification that he has been arrested. Per our Student-Athlete Handbook, any student who is facing a misdemeanor charge is automatically suspended from participation in intercollegiate athletics, pending further proceedings. The appropriate UH officials have been notified.”
