5 Things You Need to Know Today, July 22, in Montgomery County

1. Meetings of the Council Committee: Three council committees are meeting today. The Economic Development and Transport and Environment committees are holding a joint working session today at 9:30.

The Planning, Housing and Parks Committee will meet at 1:30 p.m. for a work session on the Growth Tiers Map, feasible housing and a zoning amendment to allow overnight stays in the Ag Reserve.

The Transportation and Environment Committee will also meet at 1:30 p.m. to be briefed on the recently approved WMATA budget and its impact on the county. Here is the staff report.

2. Briefing by the President of the Council: Council President Andrew Friedson will hold his weekly press conference today at 11:30 a.m. He will discuss the Council’s upcoming vote on proposed changes to the County Charter and the recent work session on a zoning amendment to allow overnight camping on the County Ag Reserve. 3. Mobile Market Mondays: The University Mobile Market at Shady Grove’s free food distribution is back today from 11am-1pm. Stop by room G318 on the ground floor of the Biomedical Sciences and Engineering Building, bring your shopping bags, and pick up some food. The market welcomes all volunteers, so sign up here if you’d like to help. Participants can park in lot 2 and will receive parking vouchers while picking up food.

4. Municipal Monday: The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. for a work session with this agenda. The Rockville Mayor and Council will not meet today.

5. IN CASE OF: A parking lot at the Westfield Montgomery shopping center in Bethesda is currently transformed into a prehistoric site with life-size, animatronic dinosaurs and light art.
