LSU cornerback Javien Toviano was arrested Sunday on charges of video voyeurism, authorities said. The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office said the 19-year-old surrendered to authorities, and the arrest warrant alleges Toviano recorded himself having sex with a woman without her consent.

The victim told investigators that she found videos of the encounters on Toviano’s iPad. According to The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate, the videos were captured by a clock with a built-in camera that was placed near the bed. The woman also stated that Toviano had previously recorded their encounters without her consent, despite her apparent objections.

In a recent interview with detectives, Toviano admitted to using hidden cameras to record the sexual encounters, as described in the arrest warrant.

Javien Toviano suspended from all team activities

Following his arrest, Javien Toviano has been suspended from all team activities. LSU released a statement saying Toviano “has been suspended from all team activities, in accordance with department policy,” and the university will refrain from further comment “out of respect for the legal process.”

Toviano, who joined LSU last year, was expected to compete for a starting cornerback position this season. A former four-star recruit, he played in every game as a rookie, earning three starts in the final five contests. He finished his freshman season with 33 tackles and one pass breakup.

The university’s preseason training begins on August 1. Details on Toviano’s bail and whether he has legal representation have not been released. It remains to be seen whether the 6’1” player will be able to attend the training.

The Arlington, Texas native previously had offers from prestigious programs like the Michigan Wolverines and Alabama Crimson Tide, but chose LSU. Now, Toviano is facing legal challenges ahead of the upcoming season that could impact his chances of landing a starting position.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities continuing to assess the case and Toviano’s cooperation. The extent of the suspension has not yet been determined and the Tigers are awaiting the outcome of the investigation.

Meanwhile, the university hired Brian Kelly to return to the College Football Playoff after the tournament was limited to 12 teams.

The team is set to kick off its 2024 campaign against USC on Sept. 1 in Las Vegas, followed by its season opener at home against Nicholls on Sept. 7.
