Former NFL running back Terrell Davis says he was recently “humiliated” after an interaction with a United Airlines flight attendant left him handcuffed and thrown off a plane in front of his wife and children.

On July 15, the 51-year-old former Denver Broncos player described in an Instagram post how his son’s request for a cup of ice cream when a flight attendant asked him for it resulted in the football player being escorted off a United Airlines flight from Denver to Orange County.

He said the incident occurred on July 13, when he was traveling with his wife, Tamiko Nash, their two sons and their daughter.

“During beverage service, my son politely asked for a cup of ice,” Davis recalled. “The flight attendant either didn’t hear his request or ignored it and continued walking down our row.”

Davis said he tried to get the flight attendant’s attention to his son by “calmly” reaching back and “lightly” tapping him on the arm.

“His reaction and the events that followed were shocking,” Davis continued, recalling how the caretaker accused the football player of becoming physical and yelling, “Don’t hit me.”

“I was confused, as were the passengers before me who witnessed the exchange,” Davis’ statement continued. “I thought nothing of it, other than that this particular employee was incredibly rude and flat out wrong in his accusations that I had hit him.”

Davis noted that there were no other interactions with the flight attendant for the remainder of the flight. However, when the flight landed in Orange County, he said six FBI and law enforcement agents boarded and walked to his seat.

United Airlines says it has removed the flight attendant from her duties while the situation is investigated.
