Blake Lively Thanks Ryan Reynolds for ‘Millennial Girl’ Jokes on ‘D&W’

Blake Lively is a proud Y2K girl!

On Monday, July 22, the 36-year-old actress paid tribute to her husband Ryan Reynolds and his new film Deadpool and Wolverine for adding shout-outs to “millennial girls”.

“Tell me Deadpool is married to a millennial girl in real life without telling me…” Lively said in a video posted to her Instagram Stories. Following the clip of herself was a montage from the upcoming superhero comedy, proving her point.

One of the references in the new film is Avril Lavigne’s song “I’m with You,” a nod to Harry Potter And FrozenCeline Dion, *NSYNC, My Little Pony friendship is magical and more, according to her post.

“Find a man who appreciates you like this boy does,” Lively wrote on her Instagram Stories post, giving a nod to the “I love you” code of the ’90s and early 2000s: “143 to all my Y2K girls.”

The Gossip Girl The alum kept the nostalgia alive in a follow-up post to her Stories, featuring a photo of herself and Reynolds, 47, kissing on the set of his new film, where he’s done up in full Deadpool makeup.

“You can’t say I was lying when I said, ‘It’s what’s on the inside that counts,'” Lively joked, referring to her husband’s unsightly makeup, as *NSYNC’s late-’90s ballad “(God Must Have Spent) a Little More Time on You” played over the post.

“Till death (or Wade Wilson) do us part…” she added.

Lively also shared both posts on her Instagram page, joking that while she “should be competing” with Reynolds at the box office because of her film It ends with us coming out soon, she can’t help but be a champion Deadpool and Wolverine for her commitment to the millennial girl era.

“It’s hard not to encourage my ladies to discover all the ways we’ve impacted @deadpoolmovie. I’ve never been so proud. And I’ve given birth 4 times. 🤣❤️💛,” she wrote.

Reynolds and co-star Hugh Jackman recently opened up about a particular pop culture moment in the upcoming film, admitting that they had to jump through some tricky procedures to get permission to use Madonna’s 1989 hit “Like A Prayer.”

“It was a big deal to ask for it and certainly an even bigger deal to use it,” Reynolds recalled in an interview with Andy Cohen on SiriusXM on Friday, July 19. “We went over, met with her, and showed her how it was used, and where, and why.”

Reynolds also said that Madonna not only agreed to the use of the song (and it helped that her son was a fan of the first two Death Pole films) she also gave them notes about the scene in which it would be used.

“She gave a great note,” he said. “She looked at it, and I’m not kidding, (she said), ‘You’ve got to do this.’ And damn if she wasn’t absolutely right.”

Deadpool and Wolverine is in theaters from Friday, July 26.
