Where are the golf majors in 2025? Plus how to get tickets and play the courses in advance

Here you will find the 2025 golf tournaments, plus information on how to get tickets and whether you can play on the host courses.

Xander Schauffele’s victory at Royal Troon marked the end of major men’s golf tournaments in 2024. We can still look forward to the AIG Women’s Open at St Andrews from 21-25 August, but after that it will be over in 2024 and we should see enough of major tournaments for another eight months.

With that in mind, we look ahead to 2025, when men’s golf tournaments will resume with the Masters and women’s golf tournaments will begin with the Chevron Championship, both in April.

Men’s Golf Majors 2025

Augusta National hosts The Masters every year.

The Masters

Where: Augusta National, Georgia, USA

When: April 10-13

The Masters is the only major men’s tournament held at the same location and – except in November 2020 due to Covid – always takes place in mid-April.

The 2025 Masters will be played April 10-13, with Scottie Scheffler looking to defend his title and earn his third Green Jacket in four seasons.

How to get tickets: The Masters holds a draw every year. Unfortunately, you’ve already missed the boat for 2025. The draw for the 2026 Masters will likely run a few weeks from June 1, 2025.

Can I play the course? It’s nearly impossible to get a tee time at Augusta, but there is a chance… We’ve listed all the ways you can play Augusta National here.

Quail Hollow to host 2025 PGA Championship

PGA Championship

Where: Quail Hollow Club, North Carolina, USA

When: May 15-18

The PGA Championship is often regarded as the least prestigious major tournament and its place on the calendar has changed many times over the years.

Quail Hollow will host the 2025 PGA Championship, the first edition since the 2017 edition, which was won by Justin Thomas.

Quail Hollow is the regular host of the PGA Tour’s Wells Fargo Championship, an event Rory McIlroy has won four times (2010, 2015, 2021 and 2024). That bodes well if the Northern Irishman is ever to break his great drought.

How to get tickets: You can now purchase tickets directly from the PGA Championship website.

Can I play the course? Quail Hollow is a private club, so you must be invited as a guest.

Oakmont will host the US Open for the 10th time in 2025

US open

Where: Oakmont Country Club, Pennsylvania, USA

When: June 12-15

The US Open will be played at Oakmont for the 10th time, with further visits planned for 2033, 2042 and 2049.

Oakmont has hosted more U.S. Opens than any other course. The last time it hosted was in 2016, when Dustin Johnson held off Jim Furyk, Shane Lowry and Scott Piercy to win by three strokes.

How to get tickets: Tickets are now available through the US Open website.

Can I play the course? Oakmont is considered one of the toughest courses in the world, and it is also one of the toughest to get into. You have to be invited by a member or participate in a charity day.

Royal Portrush to host 2025 Open Championship

The Open

Where: Royal Portrush Golf Club, County Antrim, Northern Ireland

When: July 17-20

Portrush hosted the 2019 Open after a 68-year wait. But the wait is no longer long, as the tournament received rave reviews during tournament week.

Shane Lowry won the Claret Jug in 2019 and would like to do so again in 2025, having previously officiated the Open in 2024.

How to get tickets: The draw for Open tickets closes on July 31, 2024.

Can I play the course? If you want to play in a major men’s tournament in 2025, Royal Portrush is your best option.

Their website states:

“We are delighted to welcome visitors from all over the world to visit Royal Portrush and take part in a world-class golfing experience in a warm and welcoming environment against the stunning backdrop of the Causeway Coast & Glens area with its outstanding natural beauty. To ensure availability, it is essential to pre-book all tee times.

“All green fees must be paid in full at the time of booking and are non-refundable in the event of cancellation. Visitors are expected to be members of recognised golf clubs and handicap certificates can be requested prior to playing.”

Green fees for 2024: £340 pp (May 1 to September 30)

That is the rate for Dunluce Links, the Open Course. It is also possible to play the adjacent Valley Links for £140 pp (May 1 to September 30).

I have been fortunate enough to play Dunluce and it is one of my top five favourite courses.
