Governor Whitmer Announces Navy Ship Targeting Michigan

Governor Gretchen Whitmer welcomed U.S. Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro on Monday to announce the construction of the Navy’s newest fast transport ship, the “USNS Lansing,” in honor of Michigan’s capital city.

“For the city of Lansing, it is an honor to be a part of the ships and the war effort of the United States Navy to protect us, to make us stronger, to protect our economy and to ensure the security of our homeland. It is an honor for the ‘USS Lansing’ to be a part of that work and that mission,” Whitmer said.

The Governor also traveled to Warren to announce the launch of the Michigan Maritime Manufacturing Initiative (M3), a collaboration with the Navy and other federal, state and local partners to fill existing gaps in maritime manufacturing and technology.
