Brittney Griner Reveals Name She Wants Her Son Bash to Call Her

Brittney Griner shares new details about life with her baby boy.

News broke that the WNBA star, 33, and her wife Cherelle Griner welcomed their first child, a son named Bash, on Friday, July 19. During an interview on CBS Sports’ “We Need to Talk,” the Phoenix Mercury player confirmed that the newest addition to their family was born on Monday, July 8, and revealed that she hopes her son will call her “pops” instead of “mom.”

CBS news anchor Terrika Foster-Brasby enthusiastically congratulated Griner, saying, “You’re going to be a mom soon!”

“Pops! Pops!” Griner quickly interrupted and politely corrected Foster-Brasby’s language.

It was in the same interview that Griner first revealed the birth of her son. “I’m super excited. Well, I guess I’ll just drop it… he’s here. 7/8/24. Seven pounds eight ounces,” the new mom shared. “Yes, that’s my husband!”

“He’s amazing,” she added.

Griner continued, “They said once you see them, everything you thought was important goes out the window. That’s literally what happened.”

The basketball player is preparing to go abroad to represent Team USA at the Olympics for the third time. “It’s a little bit of a bummer that I have to go, but at the same time he’ll understand,”

But she will have plenty of photos at her disposal during her stay in Paris.

“My whole phone has turned into him now,” she continued.
