UAMS uses mobile units to improve access to reproductive health care in rural areas of Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas – UAMS will use mobile units to reach out to women in rural areas of Arkansas.

UAMS officials are deploying four different mobile units to 14 different rural counties. The goal is to prevent unwanted pregnancies and improve access to health care for women across Arkansas.

The units will offer multiple clinical services, from sexually transmitted disease (STD) screenings and cervical cancer screenings to a full range of contraceptives.

“Access to contraceptives is a really important part of public health,” said Kelly Conroy, director of the Mobile Health Program.

According to UAMS officials, the other goal of the trip is to connect with local organizations and provide women in those rural areas with access to long-term reproductive care.

Previously used for prenatal and preventive care, these mobile units are now being expanded to include reproductive care.
