Governor Whitmer Announces Navy Ship Named After State Capital

LANSING, Mich. — A U.S. Navy ship has been named after none other than the capital of Michigan!

Governor Gretchen Whitmer will serve as sponsor for the USS LansingThe governor was also made an honorary crew member of the ship, which is still under construction.

“I’m grateful to be able to play a personal role in it,” Whitmer said. “The ship is being built in Alabama, but I hope to have it here in Michigan for the formal launch. I look forward to the day when it’s officially launched for the first time as the USS Lansing.”

Governor Whitmer also traveled to Warren on Monday to announce a $50 million program aimed at training workers in marine machining and welding.
