119K Commission: Education Discussion

The 119K Commission will be at Hartford City Hall starting at 5:30pm today, July 23rd, and we would love to see you there. You can still register at 119KCommission.Org. We will give priority to those who register to submit their testimony prior to the event. Please note the earlier start time as we begin our conversation on education. Additionally, please let us know by responding to this email if you registered to testify but are unable to attend.

Parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis at the public library next door, and on-street parking around City Hall – Main Street, Arch Street, Atheneum Square, and Prospect Street are closed to tickets during event hours. Entrances are on Arch or Prospect St, and the Council Chambers are on the second floor. Signs will direct you to the elevators.

Our first panel will consist of: Melane Thomasdirector of school guidance for Maloney High School in Meriden and John Madukopresident of Connecticut State Community College, speaks on the topic of how to prepare students for the workforce.

The second panel will consist of Edgardo Figueroaprincipal of Synergy Alternative High School in East Hartford, Ajit GopalakrishnanChief Performance Officer for the CT State Department of Education, and Girard DawesSenior Director of Youth Engagement for Our Piece of the Pie. They will discuss the possibilities of alternative pathways for student engagement.
