Police investigating possible drowning near Kona

(BVN) – Police are investigating a possible drowning that occurred Sunday evening in the waters off the coast of Kona.

According to the police, the identity of the 54-year-old victim is still unknown. Pending a positive identification and informing the next of kin, the police report.

On July 21 at 5:54 p.m., Kona Patrol officers responded to the 75-5600 block of Aliʻi Drive for a report of a drowning.



From the Hawaii Police Department:

Upon investigation, officers were told that an unknown 54-year-old female party, who had recently moved to Hawaii from New Mexico, was found face down in the water near the shore. Bystanders were able to pull the female party out and immediately performed CPR on her until medics arrived. She was then transported to Kona Community Hospital and later airlifted to Honolulu in critical condition.

On July 22, 2024 at approximately 9:29 a.m., the victim was pronounced dead at Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu.
