Glenda Abel – Alexandria Echo Press

Glenda Geraldine Eckel was born on August 14, 1953 in Bertha, MN. Her parents were Gerald and Clarice (Johnson) Eckel. She attended a country school and later Eagle Bend High School. She met her husband, Steven Abel, while working in St. Paul, MN. They went to the St. Clair Broiler for their first date. Dad first proposed at a Mickey’s Diner on Snelling on Valentine’s Day. She lived with her grandmother Lillian for six months before they were married. They had an outdoor wedding at her parents’ home on July 28, 1973 in Eagle Bend, MN. Their first child, David, was born in 1974 and daughter, Diane, was born in 1976. They moved to Miltona, MN in April 1976. She worked in various health care roles over the years. Glenda passed away on July 19, 2024 at Our Lady of Peace Hospice Care after battling colon and ovarian cancer.

Memorial service will be on August 10, 2024 at 11:00 am at Anderson Funeral Home with a 1 hour visitation prior to the service. Burial will take place at some point in the future in Little Falls, MN.

Glenda was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her children: David (Shannon) Abel of Dayton, MN and Diane (Jeff) Hutchinson of Minneapolis, MN; two grandchildren: Hannah Hutchinson of Seattle, WA and Haley Hutchinson of Minneapolis, MN; four brothers: Bruce Eckel, Kevin Eckel, Dale Eckel, and Scott Eckel.
