Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ countersuit comes to sudden resolution

TEXARKANA – A countersuit filed by Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones against a mother and daughter who claim direct family ties to the billionaire came to an abrupt end Tuesday afternoon.

The finding came on the second day of the trial, which focused on whether the women had violated a settlement agreement the mother reached with Jones in 1998.

The agreement prohibited Alexandra Davis, 27, and her mother, Cynthia Davis, from “bringing or supporting any lawsuit” to establish paternity and required the terms of the settlement to be kept confidential.

In return, Jones paid more than $3 million through trusts for the younger Davis, from “early childhood through adulthood,” the court documents said.

Jones, 81, filed the countersuit against Alexandra and Cynthia Davis after a judge dismissed a defamation lawsuit from the younger Davis.

It was not immediately clear what the agreement meant for other legal challenges filed by Alexandra Davis.

On Monday, Cynthia Davis gave an emotional testimony describing her relationship with the billionaire and the settlement negotiations aimed at hiding their alleged child.

Cynthia Davis testified Monday that she felt “very desperate” as the terms of the 1998 settlement agreement at the center of the trial were discussed. She said she felt powerless against Jones, even after she hired a New York City attorney to represent her, and that she “would have signed anything they put in front of me.”

Davis, who said she met Jones while working at an American Airlines counter at the Little Rock, Ark., airport, testified that she regretted agreeing to the terms. The agreement was good for her financially, Cynthia Davis said. But it did not take into account her daughter’s desire to have a relationship with her father later in life, she said from the witness stand.

Jones has repeatedly denied that he is the father and denied the allegations made against him in court. He is suing for $1.6 million in attorney fees he spent defending himself against Alexandra Davis’ lawsuits.

The lawsuit was the latest in a series of legal skirmishes between Alexandra Davis and Jones since 2022, when a now-withdrawn lawsuit seeking to terminate her from the agreement made the dispute public.
