Iowa City High’s 4A state baseball quarterfinals against Waukee set for Wednesday

The No. 3 Little Hawks play the No. 6 Warriors on Wednesday at 2 p.m.

CEDAR RAPIDS – Iowa City High will have to wait a little longer to open the state baseball tournament.

For the second straight day, weather conditions affected the schedule of the Iowa High School Athletic Association championship game at Memorial Stadium.

Third-seeded Iowa City High was originally scheduled to play No. 6 Waukee in the Class 4A final quarterfinal on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. The game is now scheduled for Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Heavy rain caused a 2-hour, 3-minute delay in the middle of the 4A quarterfinal between No. 4 Johnston and No. 5 Waukee Northwest. The Dragons and Wolves resumed play.

The quarterfinal match between No. 2 Dallas Center-Grimes and No. 7 West Des Moines Dowling was scheduled for Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.

The 3A quarterfinals were also altered by Monday’s rain. The fourth and final 3A quarterfinal was moved to Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. No. 1 Dubuque Wahlert defeated No. 8 Central DeWitt 1-0 in that game.
