Toronto neighbourhood closes streets for huge festival this weekend

Kensington Market has been the beating heart of Toronto for years. It’s a place to shop for the latest vintage finds, eat cheap and delicious food from around the world, and have a drink on a patio.

Kensington hosts a Pedestrian Sunday every year, so everyone can explore the beautiful neighborhood car-free!

On the last Sunday of every month, the streets of Kensington are closed to all motor vehicles and opened to those who prefer to travel on foot, making the streets something to behold.

As you walk through the streets, you will see stalls and vendors lining the sidewalks selling jewelry, candles and handmade products.

There is also plenty of live music, art and street food from the many stalls nearby.

A pedestrian Sunday was where I tried a fruit cup soaked in Chamoy and Tajin from Fruta Libre within Tacos 101 and now I get one every time I am in the neighborhood.

If you don’t feel like spending money, walking the streets can give you a sense of community and joy you won’t find anywhere else.

On Sundays, pedestrian zones are open from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. There are road closures on Augusta, Baldwin and Kensington Avenues.

The next one is on Sunday, July 28. Dates later this summer include August 25, September 29, and October 27.
