Boston Pickle Club aims for November opening of Norwell indoor pickleball facility

NORWELL − It’s official: Boston Pickle Club is coming to the South Shore.

This month, Norwell’s zoning board approved plans for a new indoor pickleball facility with 10 courts inside a 28,000-square-foot space at a business park at 77 Accord Park Drive, just north of Route 3.

The space will also have a lounge, lockers and areas for stretching and fitness.

Boston Pickle Club opened its first location in Boston’s Hyde Park neighborhood in February.

The club is open to the public but offers memberships where players can book courts up to 10 days ahead. Other picklers can book courts up to three days in advance.

Pickleball is played on a smaller tennis-like court with two or four players who hit a hollow, hole-punched ball over a net with paddles reminiscent of large ping pong rackets.

Co-owner Stephen Hauck said because the facility is indoors, anyone outside the building won’t hear the classic “pop” sound of the ball making contact with the paddle.
