Three players share $697K Fantasy 5 jackpot

LANSING, MI — Three players recently took home a prize of $232,658 each after splitting a Fantasy 5 jackpot of $697,974. The winners matched all five numbers drawn — 08-17-18-24-29 — for the July 12 drawing to win their share of the jackpot.

One of the winners was David Constantakis, 68, of Wayne County. He bought his winning ticket at the Family Fare, located at 1002 Forest Avenue in Frankfort.

“I was on vacation in Frankfurt and bought a couple of Fantasy 5 tickets when I stopped at the store to get some snacks for our canoe trip,” Constantakis said. “I took the tickets back to the store after the draw and scanned them. I got a message to see the seller on one of the tickets, so my wife looked up the winning numbers online and read them out.

“When she got to the last two numbers, she said, ‘If we get 24 and 29, we’re good!’ When I looked at the ticket and saw that those were my last two numbers, I was impressed!”

Constantakis said he plans to use the money he wins to pay off his house, donate it and save the rest.

The other two winners are a Macomb County woman who bought her ticket at Groesbeck & Elizabeth Petro, located at 43561 Groesbeck Highway in Clinton Township, and a woman from Isabella County who bought her ticket on the Michigan Lottery website. Both winners chose to remain anonymous.

The last Michigan player to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot was the Breakfast Club lottery club, which claimed an $842 million jackpot in June 2024. Members plan to use the money to buy a home in Florida and travel.

And while they were lucky winners, players would be wise to check their tickets right away, as a $1 million Mega Millions winner sold in Southfield in 2023 went unclaimed. The money instead went to the state’s School Aid Fund.
