Robert E. Cass – Newton Daily News

Robert E. Cass, the son of Robert Tracy and Arlene (Strand) Cass, was born on June 10, 1941, in Newton, Iowa. He graduated from Newton Senior High School, with the class of 1959.

On May 29, 1964, Robert married Judy Mae Modlin. Robert worked for the Maytag Company in Newton, Iowa for 30 years, retiring in 1999 as a Die Cast Supervisor. After retirement, he went to work for the Newton School District and drove a school bus from 2001 to 2020. Bob served in the Iowa National Guard. He enjoyed his many pets and had a soft spot for his cats. He also enjoyed collecting knives and admiring vintage cars.

Robert passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at his home in Newton. He was 83 years old. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; a son William Tracy Cass in infancy and a sister, Linda Williams.

Attending to remember Robert are his wife of 60 years, Judy; his children, Curtis (Rhonda) Cass, Amy Wilkening, and Sara (Cameron) Fifer; his grandchildren, Zachary Cass, Drake Fifer, and Delaney Fifer; his brother, David (Kathy) Cass, and his brother-in-law, Ron Williams.

A visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be designated in Robert’s name to the Des Moines Animal Rescue League, or they may be left in his name (make checks payable to Sara Fifer) and left in the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home.
