In a chilling case, three men were convicted for their roles in a racially motivated plot to attack the U.S. power grid. Paul Kryscuk, 38, of Boise, Idaho, was sentenced to six and a half years in prison for conspiracy, while Liam Collins, 25, of Johnston, Rhode Island, was sentenced to 10 years for assisting in the transportation of illegal firearms. Justin Hermanson, 25, of Swansboro, North Carolina, was sentenced to 21 months for conspiracy to manufacture and ship firearms.

“As part of a self-described ‘modern-day SS,’ these defendants conspired, prepared, and trained to attack the U.S. electrical grid in order to advance their violent white supremacist ideology,” said Attorney General Merrick B. Garland. “These sentences reflect both the depravity of their plot and the Justice Department’s commitment to holding accountable those who seek to use violence to undermine our democracy.”

Court evidence showed the group had studied a previous attack on the power grid and closely replicated the tactics used.

Over several years, Kryscuk manufactured firearms, Collins purchased military equipment, and co-defendant Jordan Duncan amassed a wealth of information on weapons and explosives. A handwritten list of potential targets, including electrical grid infrastructure, was found in Kryscuk’s possession.

Further investigation revealed the group’s connection to the forum “Iron March,” a known breeding ground for neo-Nazi recruitment. Through this platform, the men expanded their network, recruited more members, and participated in live-fire exercises.

Disturbing propaganda videos emerged showing the men carrying assault rifles and giving the Hitler salute.

The case, a joint effort by multiple federal agencies, underscores the critical importance of vigilance and swift action in combating extremist threats. The sentences imposed serve as a stark warning to those who seek to sow chaos and terror in the name of hate.
