Comedy fundraiser held in Springfield for police officer Santos

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – There wasn’t a dry eye in Nathan Bill’s Bar and Restaurant when Officer Nestor Santos and his wife, Leah, walked in on Friday.

Police officer and comedian Eddie Diesel teamed up with comedian and owner of Funny 4 Funds, Philip Anthony, to turn this tragedy into a show of support for Santos and his family.

“Comedy is a form of therapy and a way for us all to come together and have a real laugh. We can take a situation like the tragedy that happened to Officer Santos and celebrate the fact that he is still with us,” said comedian and officer Eddie Diesel.

Officer Santos, a 7-year veteran of the force, was shot in the eye and leg in June as he drove to the police station. He was later airlifted to a Boston hospital with serious injuries. Friday’s incident served as a reminder to family and friends to keep going.

“Because it’s still funny, right? I tell people that laughter is life. We’re going to celebrate with Officer Santos for keeping on laughing and keeping on living,” said Comedian and Owner of Funny 4 Funds, Philip Anthony.

Officer Santos and his wife were extremely emotional when they saw how the community supported their efforts for the city.

“I want to thank everyone for the prayers and support. It’s been amazing. Thank you,” Officer Nestor Santos shared.

“Just keep praying, that’s what’s keeping him going and we want to thank everyone for everything everyone has done for us so far, it’s been amazing,” shared Leah, Officer Santos’ wife.

Friday’s event was sold out, but you can still donate to the fundraiser. Click here to sponsor or donate, the fundraiser is open until Sunday, July 28th.
