City of Lansing Joins Owasco Lake Watershed Council

The City of Lansing has officially joined the Owasco Lake Watershed Management Council (OLWMC), expanding its board to 14 directors. The council, a public benefit nonprofit, is dedicated to protecting and managing the water resources of Owasco Lake and the watershed.

The Lansing City Council passed a resolution June 26 to appoint Board Liaison Joseph Wetmore as a representative. The OLWMC, made up of representatives from Cayuga County, Auburn and other municipalities, seeks to secure grant funding for watershed protection projects through collaborative efforts.

Lansing, the second largest city in Tompkins County, brings a significant agricultural presence to the council. The city’s farms provide nearly one-third of Tompkins County’s $67 million in agricultural product sales, making Lansing a major player in the county’s agricultural economy.
