The defensive line was disruptive during the Seminoles’ third practice of the fall

Florida State football held a pad workout on Friday as the Seminoles look to replicate the success of the 2023 season, when they completed an undefeated regular season and a conference championship.

It will be a difficult task as the program must replace players like defensive end Jared Verse and defensive tackles Braden Fiske and Fabien Lovett Sr. However, the college football landscape revolves around having to watch out for graduates, transfers and the NFL.

The Seminoles defense had 46 sacks last year and was very successful in chasing down opposing quarterbacks. Overall, the defensive line had 31.5 of those sacks.

The expected starting defensive line consists of the following players:

-DE Patrick Payton

-DE Marvin Jones Jr.

-DT Darrell Jackson Jr.

-DT Joshua Boer

However, players like Sione Lolohea, Byron Turner Jr., Aaron Hester, Daniel Lyons, KJ Sampson and Grady Kelly could also be included in the rotation. Florida State is confident in what it has in the position room.

After Friday’s practice, head football coach Mike Norvell spoke to the media and gave the following statement: “The defensive line was disruptive. They did a good job of getting the ball out.”

Some media outlets have suggested that the defensive line is as advertised. However, a player like Marvin Jones Jr. is talented, but has not produced much during his time with the Bulldogs. Fans should give credit where it is due, as this coaching staff (particularly defensive ends coach John Papuchis) has done a great job developing the position.

I believe the defensive line can be successful. However, they could run into problems with offenses that like to get the ball out quickly. Overall, Florida State could remain classified as a destination for pass rushers.
