Here’s what to do in West Michigan this weekend (July 27-28)

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — It’s the last weekend in July, so it’s time to enjoy the summer we still have here in West Michigan. Of course, it’s the opening weekend of the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival, but there are plenty of other things to keep you and your family busy.

Byron Days Festival
The first one has definitely been tested, the 88th annual Byron Days Festival is taking place in a brand new location. The fun is at Whistlestop Park and lasts all weekend. There are carnival rides and games, a fishing contest, a street hockey and pickleball tournament, a car show, live stage shows and much more. Don’t miss the fireworks on Saturday night. You can find all the information you need on Facebook.

West michigan baseball
There’s baseball for everyone, as the West Michigan Whitecaps host the Lansing Lugnuts for games all weekend. Tonight’s game sees the return of the “copa de la diversion” or “fun cup” while celebrating Hispanic and Latino culture. Plus, the Kalamazoo Growlers host the characters from Paw patrol, Bluish, PJ masksand more during tonight’s game at Homer Stryker Field.

Play Day at the Grand Rapid Children’s Museum
Saturday is a big day at the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum. Their Play Day celebration is heading to the Rainbow Road and admission to the museum is free! This is the 7th year of the event and there will be plenty to do for the little ones including yard games, crafts and bubbles. Kids can participate in art projects, play games for prizes and more! It’s all free and that includes admission to the museum and all of its exhibits including the Emotion Exploration of Inside out. It all happens on Saturday from 11am to 4pm. More information can be found on the GRCM website.

Putt for life
It’s mini golf for a good cause: Putt for Life takes place Saturday at Loeschner’s Village Green in Grandville. All money raised will go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The event is in memory of Brian Bush, who died of a brain tumor as a child. He received care at St. Jude and it was completely free. His parents have been organizing it for 36 years and have raised nearly $1 million. The cost is $25 per person to play golf, and there will be food, prizes and fun. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Read more here.
