Pancake Feed welcomes nearly 1,000 residents during Shawnee County Fair

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Nearly 1,000 residents enjoyed a pancake supper during the Shawnee County Fair.

The pancake supper took place from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, July 27 at the Stormont Vail Events Center, 1 Expocentre Dr, Topeka, Kansas.

Residents enjoyed plates of pancakes and sausage as part of the Shawnee County Fair events. For $5 a ticket, visitors got all the pancakes and sausage they could eat.

According to organizers, just over 900 people showed up last year, but this year they are aiming for 1,000.

Thanks to community sponsors, money raised from ticket sales goes directly back to 4-H to support future events and reward the kids.

“It really means a lot to me personally because I grew up in 4-H, I’ve been in pancake food for so many years, and it’s really important to see it get bigger and bigger every year,” said Kaitlin Jackson, 2023 4-H Queen. “Especially when we realize that 4-H really helps a lot of kids become better leaders and better people in our community. You come in and you become a leader, you learn how to talk to people, you learn how to communicate, you learn how to solve problems — that ability is going to make a lot of kids better for their careers and better for their futures. It’s really exciting to see how kids grow through this program.”

Shawnee County Fair events end at 5:00 PM on Saturday, but continue at 9:00 AM on Sunday.

The 2024 4-H King and Queen will also be announced on Sunday.
