Foo Fighters Dave Grohl said this about Cincinnati Ohio

Foo Fighters performed at Great American Ball Park on Thursday. The band rocked hard for nearly three hours, leaning heavily on a set list of hits that included “Everlong” and “Times Like These.” Founder and frontman Dave Grohl also worked in some local references. Here are five moments during the sold-out concert that won over the home crowd:

Ohio roots

Grohl was born in Warren, Ohio, where his family lived for a short time before moving to Springfield, Virginia. “I gotta be honest,” he said. “Whenever I come back, I’m like, ah yeah… I know that place. I know those people.”

Family ties

When introducing bass player Nate Mendel, Grohl said: “He married a Cincinnati girl. Fellas, if you want to find a good girl, you come to Cincinnati.”

Porkopolis?

As Grohl was looking around the stadium, one of the concessions caught his attention. “I didn’t realize you have a restaurant called Porkopolis. I know where I’m eating after the show.”

Name-dropping Jerry Springer

When guitarist Pat Smear was introduced, the former Nirvana bandmate of Grohl launched into the opening riff of Blitzkrieg Bop, a classic Ramones song. The crowd did its part, screaming, “Hey! Whoa! Let’s go!” Grohl replied: “He likes a good chant! Looks like (Smear) is going to stay here in Cincinnati. He’s going to be your next Jerry Springer.”

Charlie Hustle

When the band came back to the stage for its encore, lead guitarist Chris Shiflett was sporting a red T-shirt with the words “Cincinnati Invented Hustle,” a tribute to Reds great Pete Rose.
