Musk’s daughter lashes out at Musk again over child dispute

Topline

The mother of billionaire Elon Musk’s former partner, Grimes, has slammed the Tesla and X owner for allegedly keeping his children away from their mother and great-grandmother, as a custody battle over some of Musk’s 12 children escalates, with another daughter weighing in, accusing him of “despicable abuse.”

Key Facts

Singer Grimes’ mother, Sandy Garossino, tagged Musk in a post on his social media platform X on Saturday, saying her 93-year-old mother “longs to see and hold” Musk’s children — her great-grandchildren — “for the last time,” including one of Grimes’ three children, whom she “has not yet met.”

Garossino said her mother was “excited” about potentially meeting her great-grandchild during a planned trip that was canceled, and alleged that Musk is “withholding” the children “and their necessary passport documentation” from Grimes, who is Canadian.

Garossino pleaded with Musk to “honor (your) agreement” and “give the children back,” adding: “Please Elon, I’m begging you.”

Garassino’s post was promoted in a Threads post by Vivian Jenna Wilson, Musk’s 20-year-old transgender daughter, who criticized her father in a rare TV interview earlier this week.

Wilson went even further than Garossino, arguing that Musk “illegally and persistently” withheld Grimes’ children from her “during the most important developmental period in a child’s life.”

Musk has not yet publicly responded to the allegations (Forbes has reached out to Musk for comment).

Grimes sued Musk in October for custody of one of their three children. In a petition filed in San Francisco Superior Court, she alleged that Musk had refused to let her see her youngest son, Techno Mechanicus, who was said to be about 2 years old at the time.

Surprising fact

The Canadian singer had demanded in a now-deleted tweet in September 2023 that Musk show her her son, asking Musk’s partner Shivon Zilis to unblock her on the platform and for “Elon to show me my son or (please)

“Respond to my lawyer,” many media reported at the time.

Tangent

The comments mark the latest personal criticism of Musk as a father to individuals in his family, including Wilson, the child of Musk’s first wife, Justine Musk. Wilson lashed out at her father after he claimed in an X interview with right-wing commentator Jordan Peterson that he was “tricked” into allowing Wilson to undergo gender-affirming treatment when she was 16. Musk has also tweeted about Wilson, though he referred to her by her birth name, Xavier, and said she was “born gay and mildly autistic, both traits that contribute to gender dysphoria.” Wilson responded to the comments in an interview with NBC News, slamming her father, calling him “cold,” “quick to anger,” “uncaring, and narcissistic.”

Main background

Grimes broke into the public eye after her 2010 double albums “Halifaxa” and “Geidi Primes”, though she achieved international recognition with her third album, “Visions”, and its two singles, “Oblivion” and “Genesis”. She began dating Musk in 2018, and welcomed the couple’s first son, X Æ A-Xii, in 2020, whose name has become a subject of confusion. They welcomed a daughter, Exa Dark Sideræl, in 2021, and in 2022 revealed they were having a third child, named Techno Mechanicus (Musk has 12 children in total). As a couple, Musk and Grimes have largely remained out of the public eye, though the pair did appear together as Super Mario Bros. characters Wario and Princess Peach in a 2021 SNL sketch. Following their split, Grimes joked last August that her relationship with Musk was the “best internship ever,” and referenced his brash social media presence, telling Wired, “All he’s on is Twitter and he’s unhappy with woke people.”

Forbes rating

We estimate Musk is worth $233.8 billion, making him the richest person in the world. Musk reclaimed the coveted title earlier this year thanks in large part to Tesla’s soaring stock price, which has risen nearly 8 cents per share since late April. Musk’s comeback puts him above Amazon founder Jeff Bezos ($200.1 billion), LVMH magnate Bernard Arnault ($183.1 billion) and Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison ($171.6 billion).
