Neet: City’s Shubhan retains NEET pole position with perfect score of 720 | Nagpur News

Nagpur: City boy Shubhan Sengupta retained the top position in NEET-UG even after a revised merit list was announced by the National Testing Agency (NTA), the body that conducts the exams, on Friday night. Shubhan had scored a perfect 720 in the highly competitive exam, placing him among the three from Maharashtra, only one from Vidarbha and 17 nationwide. The revised NEET UG merit list was a result of malpractices coming to light at some exam centres, following which a retest was ordered for around 1,600 students. Shubhan was not among those asked to reappear. While his previous score remains intact, his prestige has gone up as the number of students who secured full marks dropped from nearly 61 to 17 after the retest. Shubhan, son of city doctors Shantanu and Rajasi, always wanted to work in the medical field. “I have always had a preference for this field,” said Shubhan, who is waiting for the MBBS counselling to begin. “I expect the counselling to start in 2-3 days. I prefer AIIMS Delhi,” said Shubhan, who is assured of a seat given his score. Born and brought up in Nagpur, Shubhan completed his Std X from BVM, Civil Lines, and scored 98.6% in his final exam. For Std XII, Shubhan enrolled in St Paul’s Junior College and secured 97.6%. His NEET UG success is due to his two-year efforts. “I stayed away from social media for two years, avoided TV and other distractions,” said Shubhan. Just seven months before the exam, Shubhan was struck by dengue and lost two weeks. “But I compensated by putting in extra hours.” But now, Shubhan is back on social media and is enjoying it by indulging in hobbies like playing football. A fan of Ronaldo, Shubhan says he has not yet decided what his career path will be after MBBS.
