Indianapolis Colts

After the Colts selected Anthony Richardson fourth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, he was limited to just four games as a rookie, but with the upcoming campaign approaching, the promising 22-year-old has come out of season-ending shoulder surgery and is primed to reclaim his spot atop the QB depth chart. His return to health boosts Indianapolis’ chances of making the playoffs for the first time since 2020, after narrowly missing out in last year’s season finale to division rival Houston.

Indianapolis Colts 2024 Top Fantasy Story

Despite losing talented rookie Anthony Richardson in Week 5, the Colts remain in contention for the 2023 postseason, led by veteran QB Gardner Minshew, who has guided the team to a 9-8 record. With Minshew in Vegas, Joe Flacco has taken over backup duties, but as long as the mobile and powerful Richardson can stay healthy, he projects as a fantasy option with plenty of upside in his second pro campaign. At the very least, the Florida native’s rushing ability gives him a solid footing as he refines his touch as a passer.

Meanwhile, Richardson’s high-end arm talent gives him a tantalizing ceiling, potentially yielding enough production to make him a top-tier option at the position. If that scenario plays out, the prospects of key WRs Michael Pittman, Josh Downs and Adonai Mitchell would improve accordingly, while complementing an explosive ground game that should center around RB Jonathan Taylor and Richardson.

While most of the attention will rightfully be on the play of Indy’s emerging franchise signal-caller, the battle for a backfield spot behind Taylor is a sideshow worth keeping an eye on for Week 1. Either Trey Sermon, Evan Hull or Tyler Goodson has a chance to emerge as a valuable late-round draft pick or savvy low-cost option in salary cap formats.

Indianapolis Colts 2024 Sleeping Players

⬆️ Sleeper: WR Adonai Mitchell

Given that Mitchell was seen as a prospect to go in Round 1 of the 2024 Draft, the Colts may have gotten themselves a steal by drafting him 52nd overall. The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder ran a 4.34-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine and has a chance to contribute right away, assuming he can overtake Alec Pierce in a WR corps that also features Michael Pittman and Josh Downs. It may take some time for Mitchell to see enough targets, but fantasy utility is within reach as the season progresses.

😴 Super Sleeper: TE Jelani Woods

Woods had a promising rookie campaign in 2022, but he sat out last season due to a hamstring injury. Now that he’s supposedly healthy again, the 6-foot-1, 250-pound prospect has a chance to stand out in a loaded TE corps that includes Mo Alie-Cox, Kylen Granson, Will Mallory and Drew Ogletree. While the Colts may still take a committee approach in 2024, Woods could surprise in his third year as a pro if he can find good chemistry with Anthony Richardson.
