Sean Payton joins Kenny Chesney on stage in Denver on Saturday

Sean Payton wasn’t sure if he would be there when his good friend Kenny Chesney played Saturday night at Empower Field in Mile High.

“We’ll see. We’ve got so much to do,” Payton said Saturday. “Now, interestingly enough, it’s on an off day, but it’s been good to have him here. I told our team the first time I met him was in 2002 — I told you the other day. For someone like him — call it the mid- to late-’90s and here it is in 2024 — he’s not playing in Ball Arena. That’s something. That staying power as long as he’s been doing it.”

Nevertheless, Payton threw open the doors of the Denver Broncos facility for the country music star. Chesney watched practices Friday and Saturday — and used the equipment.

“What he’s doing is very difficult and that’s why he’s in the weight room for two hours and that’s why he’s in the ice bath,” Payton said. “It’s not easy to do as long as he’s been doing it.”

And when Chesney performed on Saturday, Payton joined him briefly on the stage.

Sean Payton interrupted practice on Saturday to give Chesney some time with the team.

“I had a great time visiting the Denver Broncos training camp today and spending time with one of my best friends in the world, head coach Sean Payton,” said Kenny Chesney wrote in a message which made its way across multiple social media platforms. “I’m excited to be back in Denver tonight and play Empower Field at Mile High. It’s going to be a great night in the Rockies.”

The Broncos have a previously scheduled day off before resuming training camp on Monday. Chesney resumes his tour next Friday in Nashville, Tenn.
