Extreme heat continues as monsoon storms decline this week

PHOENIX — The chance of monsoon storms is decreasing as more dry air moves into the region.

There is still a chance of thunderstorms in the higher areas to the north and east of us, but we do not expect much in the valley in the coming days.

During storms at higher elevations, beware of gusts of wind, dust, dangerous lightning, downpours and flooding, especially near wildfire burns. Be aware of the weather and never attempt to drive through flooded car washes or roads.

High pressure will shift south and begin to weaken before shifting back into Arizona by the end of the week, bringing a much warmer and more humid air mass to the region. This will increase the chance for showers in the valley by next weekend.

Temperatures in the valley remain scorching, with highs around 43 degrees Celsius and lows at night between 27 and 32 degrees Celsius.

As temperatures remain high, the risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke remains.

Limit your time outdoors, especially in the afternoon, during the peak heat of the day. Stay hydrated with water and electrolyte drinks, and never leave children or pets unattended in your vehicle, no matter how quickly the errand is running.
