Lansing man, two others arrested after high-speed chase through Livingston County

A Lansing man has been arrested following a high-speed police chase through Livingston County early Saturday morning. The sheriff’s office said officers spotted a white Dodge Challenger that had been reported stolen out of Grand Rapids and began pursuing it on eastbound I-96 near M-59.

The driver sped off at 125 mph and then took the Latson exit, where officers lost sight of him and ended the chase.

The chase resumed when a Michigan State Police trooper spotted the Challenger eastbound on I-96. Brighton police attempted to stop the driver as he turned onto Grand River, but the driver fled, losing officers in Hartland Township.

According to the sheriff’s press release, a citizen called 911 and reported the vehicle was located at Washington and Hibner in the village of Hartland. Another citizen alerted officers that they saw two adult males and a juvenile male walking east on Hibner, away from the vehicle. A description of the three individuals was given.

A perimeter was set up and the three individuals were located by an officer walking out from behind a garage at Village Elementary. The individuals were ordered to stop, but they ignored them and walked toward the officer. At that point, a second vehicle arrived to pick up the occupants. Backup officers arrived and were able to take the individuals into custody.

Charges are being filed against the driver, a 29-year-old Lansing man, for fleeing and eluding, possession of a stolen vehicle, child abuse and resisting arrest.

Charges are being filed against a 26-year-old Lansing man for possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest. Charges are also being filed against the driver of the second vehicle, a 58-year-old Lansing woman, for driving without insurance.
